I have always been a big reader. When I was in upper elementary, I used to read through the Mary Kate & Ashley mystery books in a single day. Needless to say, I've read countless books in my lifetime. However, there are just some books that you read that stick with you. The lessons I've learned throughout these books are lessons that continue to impact my everyday walk with God. I don't think they'll disappoint you either.
The first is Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. To be honest, I didn't want to read this book. Historical fiction was not my genre of choice at the time, but a friend of mine bought me a copy and told me I had to. Boy, am I thankful she crammed it down my throat. Other than the Bible, no other book seems to communicate the depth of God's love for us so well. It's not cheesy, it's not boring, and it's not cliché. This book had me on the edge of my seat until the very end, sobbing all the way.
Next is Wake Up Dead by Jenny Donnely. If you struggle with wondering if you're really saved or not, or if you just feel like you've lost your fire for God, I guarantee this book will help you get your spark back. Jenny and I seem to have similar storytelling methods, since we both have a heavy use of analogies and personal examples in our books. But Jenny is a pusher. She refuses to let you stay stuck. Her thumb-in-the-back approach, while delivered with kindness and love, is enough to get anyone's feet moving.
Called to Reign by Leif Hetland challenged me in ways I never could've imagined. Even though I felt like I had a strong sense of identity in Christ, this book showed me that there were still some pretty serious lies underneath the surface that I needed to deal with. This book took me from feeling like an orphan to realizing just how loved and important I am as a daughter of God. If you struggle with loving yourself or seeing yourself as worthy in God's eyes, this book will certainly lift your head.
Then there's Crazy Faith by Mike Todd. I read this book shortly after God gave me my first big promise. The promise seemed so impossible that I was having a hard time believing it. Then this book entered my life and showed me that nothing is impossible for God. It illuminated and confirmed all of the promises God made me, as well as highlighting the process it would take to get there. Being a Christian without having strong faith is kind of like being a soldier with no weapon. It is a necessary part of our journey.
Next is The Fourth Dimension by Dr. David Yonggi Cho. Wow! This book blew my mind when it came to prayer. Now I understand what it means to boldly approach the throne. Prayer is such a vital part of our journey that is often overlooked. We say a few little quick prayers to ask God to fix our problems and call it a day. Little do we know that a strong prayer life can change the whole trajectory of your life, as well as those around you.
Lastly, I have to mention my own book, 7 Days to a Life of Limitless. Not because reading it changed my life, but because writing it did. All God asked me to do was record what I had learned over the first 3 years of my walk with Him. So I did. No big deal, right? Wrong. In the first 2 months, this book sold over 700 copies. Not because of my own doing, but because of God getting it into the hands of the people who needed to hear its message. If you're someone who is just starting out on your faith journey, or just starting to take it seriously, I sincerely believe it will help. It outlines how to hear God's voice, how to find your promises, your identity, your purpose, peace and intimacy with God as you go about your journey. It helps you put a good foundation in place so that you can grow closer to God without all of the concern for religious rules. You can find it (along with my other books) in the shop section!
Happy reading, friends!
